List of Top 10 Trust Organizations Organizing Medical Camps in Pakistan
Health, education, food, shelter, safety, and freedom of speech are the vital pillars of our society. These are the rights of the people belonging to any democratic state. However, the reality that we witness today is painful and tragic.
The rich and wealthy population is enjoying treatments and medications because they have the ability to pay for all these services while the poor and marginalized people are deprived of basic healthcare and other medical facilities due to their inability to pay for the catastrophic medical bills and costly medicines beyond their financial range.
The poor tend to compromise with their bad health conditions and choose to live a sick and distressed life. Though most of us do not feel the urge to raise our voice against the prevailing injustice and discrimination in our healthcare system, a few organizations have stepped up to deal with this problem.
Medical Trusts and other charitable organizations are concerned about the health problems of the poor who cannot afford to visit a doctor or a hospital due to theirfinancial crisis. Keeping this situation in mind, charitable trusts are organizing free medical camps with free medicine distribution for the poor.
Medical Camps can be considered as life-saving programs.Free medical camps are organized across the country throughout the year to reach out to those patients who cannot access medical treatments, medicines or diagnostic facilities due to high expenses.
Patients attending the medical camps complain about experiencing common conditions like abrasions, exposure, headaches, vomiting, food poisoning, chest pain, pharyngitis, seizures, adverse drug reactions, hypoglycemic reactions, and anaphylactic reactions etc. They are given the right treatment andfree vitamin tablets, antibiotics or other necessary medicines which they cannot afford to buy.
The medical camps are staffed by healthcare providers like physicians, nurses, pharmacists, phlebotomist, supervisors, patient registration persons, and volunteers. Free sugar and blood tests facilities arealso given to the needy patients’.Often these camps provide X-ray & Medical Laboratory Tests to economically challenged people at free of cost.
Medical trusts and charitable institutions sponsor further treatments for the deserving patients in associated hospitals. These organizations bear all medical expenses, including the cost of medicines, hospital bills, surgeries etc on behalf of the needy patients.
We cannot allow health care to be treated as a product or business. We all need healthcare and it is something that is associated with our life and death.Healthcare is a human right and it should be implemented into a social contract so that medical facilities and care is available to all.

Where Is the Problem?
More than 70 million people in Pakistan are living below the poverty line due to which they are unable to undergo proper health treatment if they experience any disease. Estimated amount of surgery backlog in Pakistan is in millions every year.
- There are not many health insurance plans for underprivileged community. They have to pay out of pocket if they need any medical treatment but due to the limited or no resources, majority is unable to undergo surgical treatment.
- Beyond the cost of the surgical procedure, they might have to pay for pre and post-operative expenses which includes medical tests, medications, hospital stay and other expenses. It is almost impossible for someone who earns less than $2 a day to pay hefty amount for medical relief.
- There is lack of advanced medical facilities and medical professionals due to which lower middle class families are unable to avail treatment facilities.
- There are a limited number of beds in hospitals but the number of patients visiting these hospitals is a lot more.
- Every second patient including a child is put on a long waiting list and during the waiting period, the patient’s health further deteriorates. In most of the cases, patients expire until their turn comes.
- There is no advanced healthcare services in slums due to which majority of people have to rely on quacks in their areas.
- Private hospitals are out of reach for deprived community due to the high costs of consultation fees and surgical procedure.

Conclusion
The poor and uneducated people have the tendency to be careless about their current health conditions and incoming illnesses. On the other hand, poor living conditions, malnutrition, unhygienic practices and poor sanitation increases their risk of acquiring life-threatening diseases further. Scientific studies have proven that diseases spread more quickly among people who live in close proximity to each other. Physical interactions between individuals happen more frequently in densely populated areas, public places and in neighborhoods which allow the transmission of diseases to occur easily.
The urban population is growing rapidly in Pakistan, and people are flocking to the cities faster than in any other country in South Asia. According to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), 90% of water supply schemes are unsafe for drinking in Pakistani cities. Sharing latrines among lower class households are very common in the cities. In the denselypopulatedareas of Karachi, one toilet is shared by 20 people sodiarrhea-related deaths and diseases among children under the age of five often breakout at an epidemic rate in the cities.
It is really important that the unprivileged ones get their health conditions assessed often to help them get the most from their lives. Basic health checkups can prevent potentially fatal conditions in the future because finding out a disease at its early stage gives the patient a better chance to get effective treatment and ensures complete recovery.
Medical Trusts and charitable healthcare organizations have taken the responsibility to ensure that the poor and helpless people gettheir access to required health checkups, diagnostic facilities, treatments, and medications. These charitable institutions have organized medical camps to provide free and subsidized treatments and medications to the poor to build up a healthy society.Medical camps also contribute to raise awareness and teach people the importance of washing hands, taking daily baths, drinking safe water, eating nutritional food, keeping the houses and the surroundings clean which are absolutely necessary to lead a healthy life.
Basic healthcare should be available to everyone at a minimal cost so that no life is lost at the premature stage; no life meets a tragic end.The human right to health means everyone has the right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, which includes access to all medical services, sanitation, adequate food, decent housing, healthy working conditions, and a clean environment. The human rights to health care also mean that hospitals, clinics, medicines, and doctors’ services must be accessible, available, acceptable, and of good quality for everyone, whenever it is needed.
