List of Top 5 Non-Profit Organizations in Australia

The world is full of suffering but there are a lot of ways we can work to overcome it.

The nonprofit organizations were established to work for the betterment of the public especially for those who are forgotten and isolated. Nonprofits raise awareness among  civilians to come and join under the same roof and contribute resources to achieve the goals of the organization.

Thus, donations collected by the nonprofit organizations are used for the implementation of the mission they have set before them. Non profits have become an important part of our society to perform greater good for the unprivileged people.

The human civilization has made mind-blowing advancements with its ultimate command over technology but it is really distressing to see that we are still lagging behind on humanitarian issues. We have remained unsuccessful to ensure equity and human rights for all.

Every day the humanitarian and societal issues are causing greater suffering for the mankind, therefore, we need generous and dedicated people and organizations to overcome these issues and bring relief in lives of those innocent souls who are suffering almost for no reason.

Australia can be ranked as one of the most developed countries of the world. Despite its steady improvement in the national economy, the homelessness crisis within the country has increased by 14% between the 2011 and 2016 censuses; with 116,427 Australian citizens have no homes or shelter to stay with their families and children. Poverty and unemployment crisis in the country has compelled 3.6 million Australian citizens to live under food insecurity.

Unfortunately, poverty, homelessness, and food insecurity are not only prevailing in Australia but becoming terribly worse around the globe every day. Though the UnitedNations has put up a goal of eliminating global hunger by 2030, 11 % of the world’s population has experienced hunger every day in 2016.

According to  UN’s The State of Food Insecurity and Nutrition in 2017 report, both manmade conflict and climate change is a keycontributor to food insecurity. Globally there are 815 million chronically food-insecure and malnourished people in the world and amongst them,326 million live in various developed countries like Australia where the economy is growing impressively.

We cannot withstand the suffering of the unprivileged population and let them die just because they lack financial stability. Nonprofits are serving this distressed population, providing these underprivileged people with aid and relief.

Even if we cannot work for the society individually we can at least donate to the deserving organizations so that they accomplish their charitable and public welfare projects to serve in the greatest interest of humanity.

Where Is the Problem?

More than 70 million people in Pakistan are living below the poverty line due to which they are unable to undergo proper health treatment if they experience any disease. Estimated amount of surgery backlog in Pakistan is in millions every year.

There are not many health insurance plans for underprivileged community. They have to pay out of pocket if they need any medical treatment but due to the limited or no resources, majority is unable to undergo surgical treatment.

Beyond the cost of the surgical procedure, they might have to pay for pre and post-operative expenses which includes medical tests, medications, hospital stay and other expenses. It is almost impossible for someone who earns less than $2 a day to pay hefty amount for medical relief.

There is lack of advanced medical facilities and medical professionals due to which lower middle class families are unable to avail treatment facilities.

There are a limited number of beds in hospitals but the number of patients visiting these hospitals is a lot more.

Every second patient including a child is put on a long waiting list and during the waiting period, the patient’s health further deteriorates. In most of the cases, patients expire until their turn comes.

There is no advanced healthcare services in slums due to which majority of people have to rely on quacks in their areas.

Private hospitals are out of reach for deprived community due to the high costs of consultation fees and surgical procedure.

In order to improve the health standards of these communities, they focus their work on these key areas:

Nurses for Nepal

In the remote lower Solukhumbu, or Everest, region health services are extremely basic. This program equips local health posts that are desperately lacking in support with both medical supplies and equipment and also trained health workers. Local health care workers are trained in primary, maternal and child health-care and emergency medical care. The project also provides health and hygiene education to local schools

Zanskar Primary Health Care

The Zanskar Valley is one of the most remote regions of the Himalaya. Located in Ladakh in the Indian Himalaya, it is cut off from the outside world by snow for six months of the year. During this time communities rely heavily on the local ‘amchi’ or traditional medical healers for primary health care. Sadly the region has unacceptable rates of infant mortality. They are working with the ‘amchi’ to train them in modern medical practices to complement their traditional approaches, helping to improve maternal health services in the region

Their Work In Health

Their health program focuses on strengthening primary health care with a focus on maternal and child health, mixing modern and traditional approaches. This ensures these communities have readily available health care and that women can give birth safely and with the appropriate support.

Conclusion:

Many of us are concerned about the people around us who don’t have food to eat, have no house to live in, have no access to healthcare, or are abandoned by their own families either because they are disabled or have grown too old to support themselves.

We feel deep sympathy and agony by the pain of the unfortunate ones and would really like to help but often we cannot make the right move because we really don’t know where to start from.

Nonprofits are working directly to alleviate the suffering of the distressed population and at the same time encouraging us to take part in their mission. Nonprofits give us a sense of purpose to live not for ourselves only but in the servitude of others.

The function of a nonprofit depends on the goal of the organization. Nonprofits generally function to collect funds to accomplish their charitable projects and spread awareness in the interest of a certain purpose or mission.

Nonprofit organizations struggle a lot while addressing these societal problems because they largely depend on donations and grants from people who support the cause, as well as other organizations or government entities. Since nonprofits receive their money from donors they try touse it in every way that helps to fulfill the organization’s mission and servethe people who are in dire need.
