In Pakistan, health has never been a priority for the Civil or Military government in its decades of history.  It is a painful fact that discussion about health issues has always gained a considerable lesser amount of attention and almost no space in political agendas.  On the other hands, though media tend to place a light on the issues like polio and other viral there are a number of causes related to abysmal health facilities that re completely absent in the virtual world. The results of this situation are terrible.  According to the statistics, the infant death rate is 66/1000 births as compared to that of 38 in India and 8 in Srilanka etc. At the same time, women life expectancy is around 67years in Pakistan and that of the maternal death rate is about 170/100,000 live births.  Another shocking fact is that the government of Pakistan is spending only 0.9% of its net GDP on health.

Behind this depressing figure, there are a number of heartbreaking stories that have ruined lives of hundreds of people due to unavailability and the affordability of health care services.  This is having a direct impact on the economic conditions of Pakistan as well as the unhealthy population, in no way can contribute to the economic growth. It is also pointed out by the health indicators that there is a considerable lack of healthcare facilities that is faced by Pakistan in addition to issues like energy crisis, terrorist attacks, corruption and improper security etc. despite all these serious  issues to deal with, health care must remain an immediate priority.

Making the excuse that Pakistan is a developing economy that has limited resources, is acceptable in no way. There are a number of countries that have to allow income as compare to Pakistan, but are striving to provide the best health care. The experiences of these countries are a big lesson for Pakistan.

Despite there are a number of amendments and policies implemented to deal with the drastic health conditions in Pakistan, there is still a need to look into the rule and policies in different levels of the health sector of Pakistan. To support the government in this manner there are a number of non-profit organizations like Transparent Hands that are working on their own to help the needy people in their health issues.
