Pakistan is one of the most populous countries in Asia and around the world. The large population is characterized by high birth rate and therefore the population keeps growing each year. One of the challenges which Pakistan is facing is health related. The federal government of Pakistan has a major responsibility of ensuring the large population to stay healthy so as to be able to support the growth of the country`s economy.

The health sector i.e human resource department is undeveloped leaving the country with few top professionals to handle some of the health issues the country is facing. Further, a large population in Pakistan is poor and they can`t afford the expensive healthcare cost.  This means that majority of the people are left to suffer and most of them succumb to the illnesses after a long fight. These depend on aid from charitable organizations to be able to afford the cost of treatment. So what are some of the top five current health issues that affect the people of Pakistan? Dengue Fever

Currently, Dengue fever is endemic in Pakistan and worst when the country is facing floods particularly during monsoon seasons.  There was a serious outbreak of this deadly viral infection in 2011 and since then dengue fever continues to be one of the top five current health issues in Pakistan. Statistics in 2017 conducted by the Pakistan ministry of national health services showed that a total of 1279 cases were reported in the month of July in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province alone. Among those cases, 25 people succumbed to the disease within the same month.  The disease is transmitted through an Aedes mosquito bite and not directly from the infected person. The major symptoms of Dengue fever include a severe headache and general body weakness.

Tuberculosis

In 2013, a total of 298, 446 cases of TB were reported across Pakistan. Globally, World Health

Organization ranks Pakistan as number six among the nation’s worst hit by the TB issue. Also, the country has reported several cases of the multidrug-resistant tuberculosis cases. TB remains one of the national emergencies as declared by the Government early in the 21st century. This has led to the establishment of national TB control programme which works in conjunction with the provincial tuberculosis control programme with an aim of eradicating the spread of this deadly infection. This disease is easily spread from one person to another through sneezing and coughing and if not treated early, leads to deaths.

Hepatitis

Studies have revealed that Pakistan is one of the world`s highest burdened country battling with chronic hepatitis cases. Data from these studies have shown that there is a high prevalence of hepatitis B and C in several areas of Pakistan. Most of the cases of these two hepatitis categories are said to spread from one patient to another through contaminated needles used in medical care and also in drug abuse cases. These diseases lead to severe liver infections which lead to death.

Cancer

Cases of various cancer types have increased in Pakistan according to statistics carried out in the last two decades. In 2015, up to 100,000 people succumbed to different types of cancer. Lung cancer and breast cancer are among the worst cases reported in Pakistan. Every year, over 300,000 new cases of various cancer types are reported in Pakistan.

Malaria

This is one of the top five current health issues that affect the people of Pakistan. The disease is widely spread through mosquito bites and causes deaths among children and adults if not detected early and treated. The country faces serious floods during the rainy season which leads to widespread of malaria as mosquitoes breed in unclean water
