Aneesa had a simple dream. She dreamt of a dignified and self-sufficient life. She wanted to be a doctor. She never thought her teenage innocence would clash severely with harsh reality; she’ll find herself in a shattered and miserable world deserted by her father. Soon Aneesa and her six young siblings dropped school at the primary stage. Her mother who is a housewife stood alone nowhere with the responsibility of seven children; clueless and lost.

Broken families earn less and the children either experience lower levels of the educational achievement or no education at all. The cycle of economic disaster continues as these families pass on the legacy of meager income on to their children. Numerous Science and Academic researchers have proved that a child even in this era badly needs a two-parent family to have the best and secured income in their adulthood.

UNESCO INSTITUTE of statistics and other sources reported, there are 31 million girls of primary school age not in school and 17 million of these girl children will never attend school in their lifetimes. Globally 65 million girls are not in the school.  There were 3,600 documented attacks on education including violence and torture against children and teachers. Bombings in schools have resulted in death or serious injuries.  School-aged children belonging to unstable and poor families were reported to sent to the local armed militia groups by their parents in exchange for the financial security of the family.

Terrorism is becoming an increasing concern worldwide, while there have been several large attacks in many parts of the world especially in Western Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. The global terrorism Index had found that 38,422 people were killed in terrorist attacks across the world in 2015.

Suffering in human life isn’t a rare occurrence. You never know when a storm is heading towards your life but it is bound to happen at some point. Though broken relationships in families, injuries and terrorist attacks are just a few facets of prevailing disasters and sufferings due to war, natural calamities, poverty, epidemic diseases, negligence to elderly and orphans, gender inequality in the current world.

Charitable organizations are making an impact even in this area. In the immediate aftermath of terrorist attacks, local charitable organizations had announced emergency relief efforts to support the survivors. They mobilize to bring relief to the severely injured, meet the requirements of the hospitals,  dispatch rescuers in the immediate area of attacks, help to rehabilitate people in shock and provide psychological relief over the phone.

Charitable organizations are trying to improve the world when none of us are willing to step forward, go beyond our own personal gains and profits and stretch out to save lives! In such situation, the role of charitable organizations becomes more prominent as they can execute the charitable and relief deeds on behalf of us in the more effective way with experienced and trained workers.

We need to fund the charitable organizations to boost their volunteer works such as building hospitals,  schools for orphans and help the organizations to fight extremism, radicalism poverty, combating social diseases etc. Majority of charitable organizations operate in good faith and within the law. Charitable organizations must be funded so that they can keep helping those in the most need. Your act of kindness no matter how small will never be wasted.

After describing how the Samaritan rescued a hurting man whom others had passed by, Jesus told His hearers, “Go and do likewise.” For over 40 years, Samaritan’s Purse has done their utmost to follow Christ’s command by going to the aid of the world’s poor, sick, and suffering. They are an effective means of reaching hurting people in countries around the world with food, medicine, and other assistance in the Name of Jesus Christ. This, in turn, earns us a hearing for the Gospel, the Good News of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

As their teams work in crisis areas of the world, people often ask, “Why did you come?” The answer is always the same: “They have come to help you in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Their ministry is all about Jesus—first, last, and always. As the Apostle Paul said, “For they do not preach themselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and themselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake” (2 Corinthians 4:5, NIV).

4 – MAP International

Who They Are

MAP International is in forth position in our List of top 15 Charity Organizations in USA. MAP International is a Christian organization providing life-changing medicines and health supplies to people in need. MAP serves all people, regardless of religion, gender, race, nationality, or ethnic background.

Their Start

In 1954,  J. Raymond Knighton answered a call in his tiny office at the Christian Medical Society in Chicago. Ray had a reputation for knowing “every medical missionary in the world,” so when a major pharmaceutical company wanted to donate $25,000 in surplus medicines, they knew just who to call.

Ray and his secretary spent three months distributing 11 tons of medicines where they were needed most.  So began the Medical Assistance Programs (MAP) – a faith based nonprofit providing essential medicines for mission clinics and hospitals in developing countries around the world.

Their Mission

MAP International is a Christian organization providing life-changing medicines and health supplies to people in need. MAP serves all people, regardless of religion, gender, race, nationality or ethnic background.

They provide medicines and health supplies to those in need around the world so they might experience life to the fullest. In times of disaster, MAP International provides immediate humanitarian assistance and relief aid including medicines and health supplies to people left homeless and without access to basic services. From the earliest days of a response, MAP focuses on helping communities restore critical services and work with partners to help them rebuild health systems.

MAP International has provided more than $6 billion in medicines and health supplies to communities in need since its inception in 1954. MAP is recognized for its stewardship by charity watchdogs, each year achieving the highest ratings from the Better Business Bureau, Charity Navigator, CNBC, ECFA and Forbes magazine.

5 – Step Up for Students

Mission

Step Up for Students is in fifth position in our List of top 15 Charity Organizations in USA. Step Up For Students empowers parents to pursue and engage in the most appropriate learning options for their children, with an emphasis on families who lack the financial resources to access these options. By pursuing this mission, they help public education fulfill the promise of equal opportunity.

Step Up For Students is a state-approved nonprofit scholarship funding organization that helps administer two scholarships for Florida schoolchildren: the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program (FTC) for low-income families and the Gardiner Scholarship (PLSA) for children with certain special needs.

Public education is rooted in the promise of equal educational opportunity, and nowhere is that covenant more relevant than in the lives of children who live near poverty or for students with certain special needs. A quality education should not be determined by financial means nor disability. Through the scholarships, they empower parents to give their children a chance at a brighter future.

The FTC scholarship program was created to benefit children whose educational options are limited by household income. The scholarships are not tied to the performance of public schools nor the students who receive them. The program is different primarily because it directly targets students with the fewest options available. The latest state-commissioned research determined that students who receive the FTC scholarship are among the lowest-performing in the public schools they leave behind. This means the FTC scholarship is serving the most disadvantaged children in Florida. Our scholarships provide parents a way to help their children find success.

The Gardiner Scholarship (PLSA) helps parents individualize the educational plans for their children with certain special needs.

These scholarships are offered as options in the same way that public education is offering an expanding array of choices. One common mistake people make about these scholarships is to view them as an indictment of public schools. However, they are intended to strengthen public education by offering options to struggling schoolchildren. They consider ourselves to be partners with public schools, and often use the tagline – “helping public education fulfill the promise of equal opportunity” – that represents a genuine expression of how they view their role in the larger education system.

A third of the children on the plane burned to death, many of the remaining victims were critically injured. Soon after, the Pentagon announced that it would not have the resources to rescue the children for 10 days.

The world received the news of the crash with dismay, shock and a widespread sense of helplessness. One individual decided to take action. Robert C. Macauley, a paper broker from New Canaan, Conn., immediately chartered a Boeing 747 to rescue the young survivors. Within 48 hours, the children were safe in California.

10 – Feeding America

    History

Feeding America is in tenth position in our List of top 15 Charity Organizations in USA. For 35 years, Feeding America has responded to the hunger crisis in America by providing food to people in need through a nationwide network of food banks.

The concept of food banking was developed by John van Hengel in Phoenix, AZ in the late 1960s. Van Hengel, a retired businessman, had been volunteering at a soup kitchen trying to find food to serve the hungry. One day, he met a desperate mother who regularly rummaged through grocery store garbage bins to find food for her children.

She suggested that there should be a place where, instead of being thrown out, discarded food could be stored for people to pick up—similar to the way “banks” store money for future use. With that, an industry was born.

Van Hengel established St. Mary’s Food Bank in Phoenix, AZ as the nation’s first food bank. In its initial year, van Hengel and his team of volunteers distributed 275,000 pounds of food to people in need. Word of the food bank’s success quickly spread, and states began to take note. By 1977, food banks had been established in 18 cities across the country.

As the number of food banks began to increase, van Hengel created a national organization for food banks and in 1979 he established Second Harvest, which was later called America’s Second Harvest the Nation’s Food Bank Network. In 2008, the network changed its name to Feeding America to better reflect the mission of the organization.

Today, Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization—a powerful and efficient network of 200 food banks across the country. As food insecurity rates hold steady at the highest levels ever, the Feeding America network of food banks has risen to meet the need. They feed 46 million people at risk of hunger, including 12 million children and 7 million seniors Support Feeding America and help solve hunger. Donate. Volunteer. Advocate. Educate.

    Working Together To End Hunger

The Feeding America network is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. Together with individuals, charities, businesses and government they can end hunger.

In a country that wastes billions of pounds of food each year, it’s almost shocking that anyone in America goes hungry. Yet every day, there are millions of children and adults who do not get the meals they need to thrive. They work to get nourishing food – from farmers, manufacturers, and retailers – to people in need. At the same time, they also seek to help the people they serve build a path to a brighter, food-secure future.

When families struggle to get enough to eat, they are often struggling to meet other basic needs as well — including housing, employment, healthcare and more. Feeding America helps provide meals to people in need through a network of food banks and helps address root causes of hunger.

Food rescue

  • saving good food from going to waste

In America, they have enough food to feed every man, woman and child, yet 72 billion pounds of safe, edible food goes to waste each year. In fact, an estimated 25 – 40 percent of food grown, processed and transported in the U.S. will never be consumed. And more food reaches landfills and incinerators than any other single material in municipal solid waste.

They work with manufacturers, distributors, retailers, food service companies and farmers to gather food before it goes to waste.

Foods that nourish

  • healthy, high in protein and nutrient rich

The long-term effects of hunger and poor nutrition can be devastating. That’s why it’s not enough to provide families with food. They need a healthy variety of foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy and lean protein. Each year, they do more to secure these foods for their nationwide network of food banks.

    Food safety

Ensuring families receive good, safe food

In the past, food banks and food pantries often focused on storing non-perishable items like canned and packaged goods. As they work to make sure hungry Americans get a wider variety of healthy foods they need, they also work to keep these foods — including highly perishable items like fresh produce and lean protein — safe.

    Food security

breaking the cycle of hunger and poverty

Feeding America is leading the fight to end hunger in their nation. Not only do they feed people facing hunger, but they also raise awareness about the issue, advocate on behalf of Americans struggling with hunger and conduct in-depth research to better understand the problem. Together they are working to break the cycle of poverty and hunger.

About the American Heart Association

American heart association is in twelfth position in our List of top 15 Charity Organizations in USA. The American Heart Association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. Founded by six cardiologists in 1924, their organization now includes more than 22.5 million volunteers and supporters. They fund innovative research, fight for stronger public health policies, and provide critical tools and information to save and improve lives. Their nationwide organization includes 156 local offices and more than 3,000 employees. They moved their national headquarters from New York to Dallas in 1975 to be more centrally located. The American Stroke Association was created as a division in 1997 to bring together the organization’s stroke-related activities.

What They Do:

To improve the lives of all Americans, they provide public health education in a variety of ways. They’re the nation’s leader in CPR education training. They help people understand the importance of healthy lifestyle choices. They provide science-based treatment guidelines to healthcare professionals to help them provide quality care to their patients. They educate lawmakers, policymakers and the public as they advocate for changes to protect and improve the health of their communities.

Their Lifesaving History

Before the American Heart Association existed, people with heart disease were considered to be doomed to complete bed rest – or worse.

But a handful of pioneering physicians and social workers believed it didn’t have to be that way. They conducted studies to learn more about heart disease, eventually leading to the founding of the American Heart Association in 1924.

“They were living in a time of almost unbelievable ignorance about heart disease,” said Paul Dudley White, one of six cardiologists who founded the organization.

The early American Heart Association enlisted help from hundreds, then thousands, of physicians and scientists. The association reorganized in 1948, transforming from a scientific society to a voluntary health organization composed of both science and lay volunteers and supported by professional staff. Since then, the American Heart Association has grown rapidly in size and influence – nationally and internationally.

In 1975, the headquarters moved from New York City to Dallas to be more centrally located. Volunteer-led affiliates formed a national network of local organizations providing research funding, education, community programs and fundraising.

In the 1980s, the association became a much more visible champion of public health, starting advocacy efforts that remain active today locally across America in all 50 states and in Washington. Large gifts allowed the association to support new research projects and education programs, including more efforts to address heart disease and stroke in women and minorities.

Who They Are

The American Heart Association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. Founded by six cardiologists in 1924, their organization now includes more than 30 million volunteers and supporters. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer worldwide. Stroke ranks second globally and is a leading cause of severe disability. Some form of cardiovascular disease affects more than one in every three adult Americans. Many are seriously burdened by disabilities. To fight these diseases, they fund innovative research, advocate for stronger public health policies, and provide critical tools and information to save and improve lives. Their nationwide organization includes 146 local offices and more than 3,400 employees, with their national headquarters in Dallas. The American Stroke Association is a division that brings together the organization’s stroke-related activities.

What They Do

They are working toward improving the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent, and reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent, all by the year 2020. They provide public health education in a variety of ways. They’re the nation’s leader in CPR education and training. They help people understand the importance of healthy lifestyle choices.

They provide science-based treatment guidelines for healthcare professionals to help them give quality care to their patients. They educate lawmakers, policymakers and the public as they advocate for changes to protect and improve the health of their communities. Their volunteer experts select the scientific research most worthy of funding — with great results.

They have invested more than $4 billion in research, more than any organization outside the federal government. They have funded 13 Nobel Prize winners and many lifesaving research advances such as the first artificial heart valve, cholesterol-lowering drugs, heart transplantation, and CPR techniques.

What You Can Do

The American Heart Association wants everyone to know that cardiovascular diseases and stroke are largely preventable. Risks can be lowered by adhering to what they call Life’s Simple 7: not smoking, being physically active, maintaining a healthy body weight, eating a healthy diet, controlling blood pressure, controlling cholesterol and controlling blood sugar.

13 – Compassion international

What is Compassion?

Compassion international is in thirteen position in our List of top 15 Charity Organizations in USA. Compassion means “to suffer with” and is an emotional response of sympathy. But it’s not just a feeling. The feeling is combined with a desire to help. Because they have compassion, they want to take action and help the person who is suffering.

Notice the last word of the definition above — “with.” They are called to suffer with someone, to suffer together. This is what differentiates compassion from empathy.

Who is Compassion International?

Compassion International is a child-advocacy ministry that pairs compassionate people with those who are suffering from poverty. The ministry releases children from spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty. The goal is for each child to become a responsible and fulfilled adult.

Compassion’s work has grown from modest beginnings in South Korea in 1952 when American evangelist Rev. Everett Swanson felt compelled to help 35 children orphaned by the Korean conflict. Today it is a worldwide ministry where millions of children are now reaping the benefits of one man’s clear, God-given vision.

  • A movement. A calling. A cause. A people.
  • Compassion is global, reflecting the beautiful diversity of God’s kingdom.
  • They are collaborative, depending on teamwork and partnership.
  • They are inclusive and accepting of others.
  • They are honest. They say what They mean, and They do what They say.
  • They are respectful, protecting the divine character in everyone.
  • They strive to always be grace filled, kind, forgiving and merciful.
  • They are loving. God’s love fuels us, and They unabashedly love one another.
  • They are passionate, against injustice and for their cause.
  • Compassion is authentic, facing hard realities with an adventuresome spirit.
  • They are totally focused on their mission. Single-minded in their pursuit.
  • Their ministry is contextual, customized and culturally relevant. It is effective, proven and outcome driven.
  • Their creative spirit drives innovative solutions to the challenges and opportunities before us.
  • Compassion is professional. They do their work with excellence but without pretension.

Their faith in God and in His promises empowers us to be confident. In the face of evil raging around us, They remain hopeful and lift one another’s spirits as They go about their mission of releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name.

Mission

It’s a mission about love. They love God, and they demonstrate their love and live out their faith by extending care to others.

They offer their programs to the poorest of the poor, to the children in greatest need, without ulterior motive. They devote ourselves to helping children of all faiths, cultures, backgrounds and race — without imposing any religious obligation or conversion requirement upon them.

 What They Do

  • Holistic Child Development Through Sponsorship
  • They are the world’s leading authority in holistic child development through sponsorship.

Holistic child development means they begin, in some cases, with prenatal care and go all the way through leadership development for qualified young adults. It means they take a long-term approach to what they do and go beyond simple involvement in the lives of the children and families they serve.

All of their child development programs provide opportunities that encourage healthy development in four areas — spiritual, physical, social and economic.

And when it specifically comes to child sponsorship, their Child Sponsorship Program is the only child sponsorship program validated as effective through independent, empirical research.

14 – Direct relief

Direct relief is in fourteenth position in our List of top 15 Charity Organizations in USA. Direct Relief is a humanitarian aid organization, active in all 50 states and more than 80 countries, with a mission to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies.

Programs

Nongovernmental, nonsectarian, and not-for-profit, Direct Relief provides assistance to people and communities without regard to politics, religious beliefs, or ethnic identities.

Direct Relief’s assistance programs focus on maternal and child health, the prevention and treatment of disease, and emergency preparedness and response, and are tailored to the particular circumstances and needs of the world’s most vulnerable and at-risk populations.

This tradition of direct and targeted assistance, provided in a manner that respects and involves the people served, has been a hallmark of the organization since its founding in 1948 by refugee war immigrants to the U.S.

Direct Relief’s work earns wide recognition from independent charity evaluators, including a 100% fundraising efficiency rating from Forbes, the No. 1 spot on Charity Navigator’s list of the “10 Best Charities Everyone’s Heard Of,” and inclusion in Fast Company’s list of “the world’s most innovative nonprofits.”

The only humanitarian nonprofit to be designated by The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) as a Verified-Accredited Wholesale Distributor (VAWD) of pharmaceuticals and other medical supplies, Direct Relief holds credentials and memberships with a variety of prominent professional organizations, government agencies, and jurisdictions.

Finances & Policies

Direct Relief honors the generosity of its donors by following a firm policy of full transparency in all of its operations. The organization routinely reports on how donations are used and makes its financial documents (e.g., tax returns, annual reports, audits), fundraising practices, and compensation policies open to the public.

Since 1948, Direct Relief has worked to help people who confront enormous hardship to recover from disasters and improve the quality of their lives. The tradition of direct and targeted assistance, provided in a manner that respects and involves the people served, has been a hallmark of the organization since its founding.

In 1945, William Zimdin, an Estonian immigrant who had amassed significant wealth in prewar Europe, began sending thousands of relief parcels containing food, clothing, and medicines to relatives, friends, and former employees who were rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of World War II.

He established the William Zimdin Foundation on August 23, 1948, as a California-based non-profit corporation. Having witnessed the impacts of unchecked power, Zimdin dedicated his life’s fortune to the oppressed, shunning the fascism that had caused his him to flee Hitler’s Europe for his life.

Direct Relief provided postwar assistance to enable people to help themselves. In 1950, a revolving loan fund was established to provide refugees with small grants to establish new lives. Repaid funds provided capital for subsequent grantees. While the individual grant program ceased in the early 1960s, the underlying notion remains integral to current programs.

15 – World vision

World vision is in fifteenth position in our List of top 15 Charity Organizations in USA. World Vision is an international partnership of Christians whose mission is to follow their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in working with the poor and oppressed to promote human transformation, seek justice, and bear witness to the good news of the Kingdom of God.

They pursue this mission through integrated, holistic commitment to:

  • Transformational development that is community-based and sustainable, focused especially on the needs of children.
  • Emergency relief that assists people afflicted by conflict or disaster.
  • Promotion of justice that seeks to change unjust structures affecting the poor among whom they work.
  • Partnerships with churches to contribute to spiritual and social transformation.
  • Public awareness that leads to informed understanding, giving, involvement, and prayer.
  • Witness to Jesus Christ by life, deed, word, and sign that encourages people to respond to the Gospel.

They are committed to the poor

They are called to serve the people in greatest need around the world, to relieve their suffering and to promote the transformation of their condition of life.

They stand in solidarity in a common search for justice. They seek to understand the situation of the poor and work alongside them toward fullness of life. They share their discovery of eternal hope in Jesus Christ.

They seek to facilitate an engagement between the poor and the affluent that opens both to transformation. They respect the poor as active participants, not passive recipients, in this relationship. They are people from whom others may learn and receive, as well as give. The need for transformation is common to all. Together they share a quest for justice, peace, reconciliation, and healing in a broken world.

They value people

They regard all people as created and loved by God. they give priority to people before money, structure, systems, and other institutional machinery.

They act in ways that respect the dignity, uniqueness, and intrinsic worth of every person — the poor, the donors, their staff and their families, boards, and volunteers. They celebrate the richness of diversity in human personality, culture, and contribution.

They practice a participate, open, enabling style in working relationships. They encourage the professional, personal, and spiritual development of their staff.

Conclusion

Charitable work is an undeniable part of the world as these organizations have extended their activities from social services to care for the elderly, the environment, animals etc. Charitable organizations need to be backed up by public donations. We should encourage our family and friends to donate a chunk of their monthly salaries and income and support the ones in badly need of assistance. Men, women, and children all over the world now need our help. Providing service and extending charity can overcome their difficulties and make them seem less challenging.

Nearly 1/2 of the world’s population representing 3 billion people live on less than $2.50 a day. 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty less than $1.50 a day.UNICEF reported 22,000 children die globally each day due to poverty. 805 million people worldwide do not have any food to eat and food banks are working immensely to feed these hungry people. 1 billion of children are living in poverty.

The World Food Program said” The poor are hungry and their hunger traps them in poverty. Hunger is the number one cause of death in the world killing more than HIV/Aids, Malaria and Tuberculosis combined.”

UNICEF reported, nearly 140 million children are classified as orphans and 95% of all orphans are over the age of 5. 15.1 million of them have lost both parents. Evidence had shown that some orphans are living with a  grandparent or another family member.

We must stop for a moment to look into the helpless eyes of the needy who are desperately seeking a way of survival. We have to stop for a moment to meet, to love and to share the goodness of life, the privileges we have got and a little amount of our wealth with these unfortunate people. This is a precious moment but it is crucial. With every passing moment, the sufferings will only extend where tolerating is no longer humanly possible. If we share caring, lightheartedness, and love, we will create abundance and joy for each other.

Charity or donation is all about accepting someone’s differences, weaknesses, and shortcomings. Charity or donation isn’t  about pity but it is about love. When you reaching out your hand with money you are showering love to the people.

Just as Saint Mother Teresa had once said “ A love to be true has to hurt. Love one another with great love.” Give away a small amount of your wealth to charity with great love. A small donation can make a huge difference when contributed to an organization and make each life worth living.

Support the poor patients with your Christmas Donations and ThanksGiving Donations
